Catalog description

The Independent Study course is a vehicle to accommodate special interests of IPD students which are not served through regular courses. They create opportunities for mini-projects and a mentoring relationship between the student and the faculty. IPD 5990 can only be counted towards the elective requirement for the MIPD degree and with approval for the MSEIPD degree and must be a topic independent of the IPD student's final project work. Prior to the beginning of the semester in which the student contemplates taking the independent study, the student and their independent study advisor should develop a brief proposal. An independent study course should require effort comparable to that of a regular course, about 9 hours a week or a total of 126 hours per semester. Full details are available in the IPD program guidelines.
