Catalog description

Advanced Business German is a content-rich course designed for students who have completed at least one Business German course at Penn. Building on this foundation, the course develops advanced language proficiency while deepening students’ understanding of German-speaking business contexts. Through authentic readings from the German press, case studies, and project-based learning, students will explore current themes such as entrepreneurship, digitalization, new models of work, sustainability, corporate ethics, and Germany’s changing role in the global economy. A central component of the course are project-based business dilemmas, which serve as the basis for collaborative learning. These scenarios challenge students to analyze complex issues, debate solutions, and present their findings in professional German. By the end of the course, you will have acquired the linguistic precision, intercultural awareness, and critical thinking skills needed to navigate German-speaking business environments with confidence.
