Catalog description

French 0200 is the second semester in the elementary-level sequence, designed to develop functional proficiency in the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while fostering familiarity with French and Francophone cultures. The course places primary emphasis on developing oral and aural skills, with additional focus on cultural readings and frequent writing practice. As with other French courses, this class will be conducted entirely in French. Through a variety of communicative activities, you will be exposed to rich spoken French and guided from structured practice to free expression. Small-group and pair work will provide frequent opportunities to practice newly acquired vocabulary and grammatical structures in real-life contexts. The course incorporates authentic materials—including written texts, articles, songs, films, and videos—to deepen your understanding of French and Francophone cultures. You will also explore the Francophone world through online resources.
