Listening Beyond Hearing explores listening as an active and creative practice beyond passive reception. This course integrates theoretical inquiry with hands-on engagement in studio environments, emphasizing listening as a means of reshaping our interaction with soundscapes, language, space, and materiality. Students will examine how listening creates new realities, frames cultural narratives, and facilitates multisensory engagement. Through practical exercises in sound recording, editing, and production, they will develop technical fluency in audio software, studio techniques, and spatialized sound design. By working with microphones, mixing consoles, and digital audio workstations, students will refine their listening sensibilities while learning to shape and manipulate sound as a material force.
