Catalog description

This course will consider the literatures and cultures of Philadelphia in the 18th and 19th centuries. By reading novels, poetry, and historical documents, we will consider how the city in which we live and work developed during its first two centuries. We will focus in particular on themes of race, labor, colonialism, slavery, migration, and popular culture.
