Modeling Leadership Resilience through Chaos, Crisis, Calamity, Calumny, and Catastrophe

All institutions are vulnerable to disruptions that can escalate rapidly to truly catastrophic conditions. Local, national, and international events can pose serious threats to the health and wellness of individuals and cohort groups of community members and to the normative functioning of institutional entities. Contemporary leaders model resilience through these crises through their imaginative and agile stewardship. Core goals of the Modeling Resilient Leadership through Catastrophe course are to help students understand: categories of crises endemic to institutions, agencies, and systems; the importance of crisis mitigation advance planning including the elements of a crisis management plan and the value of “tabletop” practice, and those leadership styles and characteristics that contribute to highly-effective leadership resilience in catastrophic events from incidence through to recovery.
