Catalog description

This graduate course prepares students with the theoretical foundations and practical pedagogical skills necessary to teach Chinese at the college level. It examines the history and evolving objectives of Chinese language teaching in the United States, proficiency standards and assessment, ideological dimensions of curriculum, major teaching methodologies, digital technologies, heritage learner issues, and core structures of Chinese grammar. By the end of the course, students will: Observe Chinese language classes and engage with learners at Penn Understand key issues in Chinese language pedagogy Critically analyze teaching methodologies, practices, and materials Conduct independent pedagogical research
