There is a growing interest in school climate research and practice around the world. School climate refers to the quality and character of school life and is based on patterns of school community’s (students', parents', school personnel's and community members) experience of school life and reflects norms, goals, values, interpersonal relationships, teaching and learning practices, and organizational structures. This course provides an international and comparative perspective on school climate and social emotional learning using available relevant articles, case studies, and examples from both low as well as middle- and high-income countries. Topics include definitions, dimensions and models of school climate and social emotional learning, trends in the field, assessment mechanisms, policy discussions, school climate practice, challenges in the field, etc. At the end of the course, students will get a solid understanding of school climate and social emotional learning concepts as well as research, policy, and practice on school climate from a global perspective.
