Education in a Connected Global Landscape

This virtual course offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the field of education in an interconnected world. Throughout the course, students will explore fundamental questions about the purpose, practice, and impact of education: How do cultural and social contexts shape teaching and learning? In what ways does technology redefine teaching and learning? How do global education policies influence local schools and communities? Through dynamic online discussions, collaborative projects, and insights from guest speakers across the Graduate School of Education, students will critically examine the complex relationships between education, language, technology, culture, and society in the 21st century. Key topics include: the evolving purposes and roles of education across diverse contexts, the ethical and practical implications of educational technology, effective and inclusive teaching and pedagogical practices, and equity and access challenges in K–12 and higher education. This course equips students with the foundational knowledge and analytical tools needed for advanced study in education and prepares them to engage thoughtfully with the complex educational challenges of a globalized world.
