Global Governance and Cooperation: International Education Policy and Practice

Catalog description

This course examines global governance in education from a policy perspective. Drawing on diverse disciplinary approaches – including international relations, economics, anthropology/sociology, and development studies –students will explore the key actors involved in international educational policy making; how policy is created, financed, and evaluated; and how these actors and policies impact various fields of education (e.g. early childhood education, higher education, EdTech, etc.). The course aims to help students develop the skills needed to critically engage with and design global educational policy in an increasingly globalized yet bordered world. By the end of the course, students will have deepened their understanding of the history, current iterations, and future directions of global governance and international cooperation in education and have acquired the analytical skills necessary to contribute to the global education policy field. The course is open to all graduate students interested in international development, public policy, and global education.
