Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the art and craft of cinematography. We will learn the theory and develop the technical skills to achieve our creative vision. These skills include all aspects of using digital cameras, composition, color science, and lighting. We will also closely analyze the work of cinematographers from different historical periods, countries, and filmmaking traditions. We will apply our skills in short exercises and a capstone micro-short film. An understanding of cinematography is foundational not only for directors of photography but also for directors, writers, actors, and informed media viewers.
