Catalog description

This course is designed for students with advanced proficiency in Chinese who wish to further develop their reading, discussion, and expressive abilities through literary and cultural narratives. Using short stories, prose essays, memoir-style writing, and selected film adaptations from contemporary Chinese-speaking societies, students will engage in close reading, discussion, and reflective analysis in Chinese. The course explores themes such as family, memory, identity, urban life, social change, and interpersonal relationships across different Chinese-speaking communities. Through interactive discussions, analytical writing, and multimedia materials, students will deepen their understanding of contemporary Chinese-language cultures while strengthening advanced-level reading, speaking, listening, and writing skills.
