Basic Chemical Process Safety

Catalog description

To build a strong ethical basis, a young engineer needs a clear understanding of potential hazards associated with chemical processes, familiarity with mitigation methods including inherently safer design, and practice exploring the potential impacts of various decisions using simulations. It’s simply not possible to learn by trial and error when the error can have dangerous impacts on the business, the surrounding community, or the environment. Students will learn the important technical fundamentals and an ethical framework so they can confidently make safe and ethical engineering decisions. After the course, the students will be able to identify hazards, and safety risks and perform inherently safer designs for chemical processes. Students will achieve Level I certification from SAChE (Safety and Chemical Engineering Education), a division of AIChE.
