Psychedelic Bioethics

This course examines the ethical, conceptual, and policy questions arising from the contemporary use of psychedelics in research, clinical care, and commercial contexts. Students will analyze topics such as research design and informed consent, therapist–participant boundaries, professional conduct, equity and access, and the influence of market and regulatory structures. Historical and philosophical perspectives provide context for evaluating how psychedelics challenge conventional understandings of mind, mental illness, and treatment. The course aims to equip students to assess practices in psychedelic science and therapy through established frameworks in bioethics and professional ethics.
