This first year seminar investigates the folklore of South Asian Americans through the everyday practices and customs of the community. By considering the history and migration of South Asian Americans, this course explores the basic themes surrounding the lives that immigrants are living in America, and more specifically the identity that the second generation, born and/or raised in America, is developing. South Asians in the U.S. thematically covers the topics of history, ethnicity, marriage, gender, religion, media representation, and race.
