Architectural History Seminar

Catalog description

This course addresses architectural history as a global and contested field. Through different geographies and epistemologies, mainly from the South and their global connections, this class will focus on emerging topics in architectural history, including but not limited to histories of colonialism, empire, racial capitalism, labor and environmental exploitation, extraction, architecture's entanglements with the ongoing climate crisis, and histories of counter-conduct, resistance, collective action, and refusal. Using methods of architectural history in research and visual analysis, the class will assess a combination of primary and secondary sources weekly to contend with themes from political and architectural movements, postcolonial and decolonial critiques, and other theoretical frameworks from marginalized geographies and methods.
