This upper-level seminar explores the spatial, environmental, and political forces that shape architectural histories across time and place. Through close analysis of built and unbuilt environments, students will engage with architecture as a material practice and a reflection of broader cultural, ecological, and geopolitical dynamics. The course emphasizes critical approaches—including postcolonial, decolonial, and environmental frameworks—to examine how architecture participates in systems of power as well as in acts of resistance, transformation, and repair. Seminar topics will vary by year, allowing students to investigate specific historical contexts, regions, or themes in depth.
