Catalog description

This 4-week elective builds on skills students have developed throughout their previous basic science knowledge and clinical rotations to provide them with additional exposure to the diagnosis and treatment of infections in children. Rounding with the consulting team: Students will work with the attending Pediatric ID physician, as well as any other learners (residents, students) who may be on the rotation to see new consults and follow up existing patients. Students will be responsible for performing the initial consult, including the history and physical, and then presenting the patient on rounds. The consulting service usually receives 15 new consults each week. Students will also have opportunities to see patients in the outpatient setting and round with the Antimicrobial Stewardship Team if they are interested. Other activities include weekly microbiology rounds and ID case conference.
