Introduction to Women's Health in Internal Medicine 4 Credits/Maximum of 4

Catalog description

Students in this elective will participate in clinical experiences focused in primary care for patients assigned female at birth or who identify as women. Clinical experiences are 30 hours/week for 4 weeks with most sessions in the internal medicine ambulatory clinic with physicians who have a women's health focus. Additional clinical experiences include, but are not limited to, rotations at planned parenthood, pelvic floor physical therapy, breast clinic, and the pelvic pain clinic. Students will have the opportunity to complete notes, practice oral presentations, and devise assessment and plans in clinic and to meet with faculty in internal medicine women's health to discuss how they became interested in this field. Participants will also join the internal medicine residents for their ambulatory half day didactics on two half days. The remainder of time during the elective will be for weekly meetings with the course director to reflect on clinical experiences and to work on assignments in women's health quality improvement, advocacy, research, and education.
