Catalog description

This course is designed to introduce students to the legislative processes that generate statutes, a dominant source of law in contemporary U.S. society, and to the theories, doctrines and tools of statutory interpretation. In addition, this course will introduce students to the actors, institutions and entities that contribute to the legislative process and that engage in statutory interpretation. This course will stress both the practical and theoretical dimensions of interpretation. Students will learn and apply the methods of statutory interpretation, and the course will involve several simulation-focused assessments. This course satisfies the experiential learning requirement.
