Advanced Legal Research: Foreign and International Law

Catalog description

This course teaches students how to proficiently, effectively, and confidently use internet sources and subscription databases to research legal issues and questions involving foreign (non-U.S.) jurisdictions, public international law, and private international law. It introduces the world's major legal systems, defines key terms of art, and instructs on how to find and assess important primary sources, including international treaties and agreements. The course's focus on critical legal research centers the historical and modern impacts of colonialism and imperialism on the development not only of international law, but also on domestic legal systems around the globe. This course satisfies the experiential learning requirement.
