Catalog description

The Clinician Scientist Training Pathway (CSTP) Research-1course provides curricular credit for student research performed within the Penn State College of Medicine CSTP and supervised by a faculty research advisor. As a prerequisite for this course, students must have been accepted into the CSTP. The CSTP Research-1 course is taken concurrently with the one-credit Clinician Scientist-1 course (CLINSCI-1). The CSTP Research-1 course is a semester-long longitudinal course. Entry point for the course is July of the Fall Semester. During the CSTP Research-1 course, the student will work with a research advisor to develop a final research proposal that is specific and attainable in the time specified and begin to carry out their research under the supervision of their research advisor. A student must plan and carry out a research project in which the student makes significant contributions to data collection, analysis, and preparation of a research project and reports on research in progress. Students may choose to perform research in any health-related area, including basic science, clinical science, systems science, humanities, medical education or social sciences research. The successful student will demonstrate progress in their research through research reports through the semester and verbal updates as determined by the student and advisor, based on the research project.
