This course offers a foundational overview of occupational safety and health principles as they apply to the construction industry. Students will gain a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations, with emphasis on the 29 CFR 1926 standards. Core topics include the identification of common construction site hazards, safe practices for using ladders, scaffolds, and working platforms, and the proper selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), guided by job hazard analysis and the hierarchy of controls. Students will also learn to recognize chemical hazards through the Global Harmonized System (GHS) pictograms and Safety Data Sheets (SDS). The course includes certified training in CPR and First Aid for adults, children, and infants in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines. Instruction also covers the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), as well as the administration of Narcan and epinephrine. This course is ideal for individuals seeking essential knowledge in construction site safety. Total of 36 hours lecture and 27 hours laboratory.
