An exploratory survey of how archaeologists discover, describe, interpret, and explain the past through the analysis of material remains left by ancient peoples. Topics include the history and interdisciplinary nature of archaeology; field methods, analytical practices, and dating techniques; categories of archaeological evidence; professional ethics; and selected cultural sequences and archaeology site examples.
