This comprehensive course is designed for the learner seeking to deepen their understanding of imaging technology with a focus on Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Students will learn the fundamental structure and functions of CT and MRI equipment, delving into the mechanics behind image acquisition. The course covers essential physics of MRI image generation, explaining various sequences such as T1 weighted, T2 weighted, Short Tau Inversion Recovery (STIR), FLARE, Diffusion Weighted, and Proton Density (PD) imaging. Additionally, the curriculum includes a detailed exploration of flow-sensitive imaging techniques like Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) and Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) Flow Studies. Students will also gain insights into the physics underpinning CT scanning, including acquisition and reconstruction parameters. A key component of the course involves identifying common MRI and CT artifacts, understanding their origins, and learning how they impact image quality. This knowledge will equip learners with the skills necessary to interpret imaging results more accurately and effectively.
