MULTIMODAL REHAB PRENAT/POSTPARTUM

This course is designed to introduce musculoskeletal principles and a variety of methodologies that can be utilized during the rehabilitation and management of a patient throughout the perinatal period. It will integrate approaches to prevent and manage common neuromusculoskeletal conditions that occur in the perinatal patient population. It will expand on functional anatomy and physiology of the joints, muscles, and soft tissue structures and different changes that occur, as well as introduce common complaints and dysfunctions that patients in this population present with during this life phase. The course will be dedicated to the development of skills in evaluation and treatment of common areas of concern for pregnant and postpartum patients. Intervention avenues that will be presented, discussed, and integrated will include active rehabilitative exercises, active mobilizations and movement preparation, soft-tissue mobilization strategies, general manipulation strategies, strength training, and home care instruction. The focus of the course will be in integration of a variety of intervention options to allow for the maximal potential of implementation of these skills into a clinical internship and private practice.Prerequisites: Analysis & Adjusting Technique I, Physical Diagnosis
