Catalog description

This seminar examines major political, social, economic and cultural developments in Europe over the course of the 20th century. Main course themes include: the retreat of Liberalism; the rise of Fascism; the role of war in transforming society, European unity; the lives of women; the place of the “other” in European society; internal and external threats to open societies. The seminar shall comprise an inquiry of period literature. Note: Offered as required.
