Medical-Surgical Nursing I

Catalog description

This course provides an overview of health concepts, risk factors, manifestations of disease processes, treatment methodologies, drug therapy, diagnostics, complications, expected outcomes, pathophysiology, and discharge teaching for adults with: acid-base imbalance, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, clotting problems, impaired cognition, cancer, discomfort from disease and surgery, problems with glucose regulation, disorders of immunity, mobility, perfusion, reproduction, and tissue integrity. Students will learn how to provide holistic, culturally competent, interprofessional care for the surgical patient, hospitalized patient, and the patient experiencing a medical emergency or trauma. This course is a course only included in the Associate Degree in Nursing (RN) Program.
