Catalog description
The goal of this course is to provide an opportunity for students to expand their knowledge and skills in surgical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. It is a partner to the Surg 701 course taken by all students. The requirements of the course can be met in various clinical specialties and settings if the rotation provides students with the ability to fulfill the learning objectives. Some specialties will typically meet the requirements of this course include Adult or Pediatric General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Trauma Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Urology. Other specialties may also meet the requirements of this course if the preceptor’s practice allows for students to routinely have the experiences listed below while in the rotation. Allowance for specialties and combined experiences not listed above will need approval from the student’s assigned Assistant Dean for Clinical Education. To meet requirements for this course, students will need to perform at least ten (10) of the distinct Key Features listed below during the rotation experience. These Key Features will be logged in the case log for this rotation.
