Periodontics and Disease Prevention II

Catalog description
This course will cover the process of creating a diagnosis for patients, including the old and new periodontal classification systems. Students will learn how to properly identify local and systemic risk factors to assign a proper prognosis (including interdisciplinary prognostication) for individual teeth and overall oral health. We will introduce the principles of initial (non-surgical) therapy and re-evaluation, as well as the armamentarium necessary to perform this treatment. Students will be introduced to classic 126 | School of Dental Medicine and current literature to support content, which will begin to familiarize them with how to read and interpret periodontal literature.
