Pain Control and Emergency Management

Catalog description

This course introduces the dental student to the principles of pain control, anxiolysis, and local & regional anesthesia. This course will be didactic with hands-on training techniques for the delivery of local and regional anesthesia for pain control in dental practice. Students will gain a thorough understanding of pain physiology, pharmacology of anesthetic agents, and the anatomical landmarks essential for safe and effective anesthetic administration. Emphasis is placed on patient safety, prevention and management of complications, and professional communication during anesthesia procedures. Through lectures, simulations, and hands-on practice, students will develop the skills necessary to select appropriate anesthetic techniques, calculate safe dosages, and obtain informed consent, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
