Research Methods and Techniques II

Catalog description

This course is Part II of a two-course sequence. The sequence exposes students to the concept of the clinician-scholar and the process of critical analysis and inquiry used in science and clinical practice. Topics covered include principles of evidence-based practice, the scientific method, the structure and development of scientific literature, HIPAA, CITI, human subjects protections, where and how to identify sources of evidence, and how to critically evaluate data and publications. The course also introduces students to different qualitative and quantitative methodologies, research designs, AI tools, and translation of research into clinical practice. Students will develop a research proposal and complete a scholarly project, poster, and presentation. Emphasis will be on developing evidence-based decision-making skills (EBDM) essential in healthcare careers. Admittance to MBS program or permission of the MBS director is required.
