Functions & Reasoning through Modeling

Catalog description

This course is designed to prepare students for college-level precalculus mathematics. It will provide the student with a strong foundation in functions and their behavior by using multiple representations and explicit covariational reasoning to investigate and explore quantities, their relationships, and how these relationships change. Additionally, this course provides the algebraic tools necessary to analyze various function types, including linear, quadratic, polynomial, power, exponential, and logarithmic functions. The material is presented through modeling real-world data in the context of business, science, politics, and many others. Group work on projects involving technology (Excel, Desmos) is an essential part of this course. The course is intended for students who plan on pursuing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics coursework that requires a thorough knowledge of functions and algebraic reasoning. Prerequisite: MA 065 or placement via entrance test score.
