Environmental Justice in Social Work Practice.

Catalog description

Building on generalist social work knowledge, this course explores concepts and application of environmental justice, environmental inequity and environmental racism, in addition to sustainability in social work practice. The impact of these concepts on the individual, family, community, groups, and organizations are analyzed using systems theory, PIE conceptualization, empowerment theory, strengths perspective, and humanistic theory amongst others. The use of direct practice interventions in relation to the aforementioned concepts will be explored and practiced in preparation for use with clients. Prerequisite: Successful completion of all previous SOCW courses. Students in other University of the Pacific graduate programs may take this course as an elective with the permission of the instructor.
