Catalog description

This class is designed to introduce students to religion as an academic field of study. While one can easily locate groups who identify themselves as Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, and so forth, one might actually have more difficulty figuring out what - if anything - unifies all of these groups, and therefore what it is that people mean when they use the term religion. In this class students explore some of the basic concepts and categories used by scholars when they investigate the social phenomenon of religion. All students discover that this course gives them experience in critical thinking, comparative analysis, and cultural diversity. ( GE2B , GESO )
