Catalog description

This course will focus on understanding and applying information regarding the eligibility criteria, components, and delivery of the CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP). Students will successfully complete self-paced training to become certified as Lifestyle Coaches of the DPP. Students will apply knowledge gained in PRAC 170 (Introduction to the Diabetes Prevention Program) to support DPP participants in achieving their weight loss and exercise goals to help prevent or delay the development of type 2 diabetes. Students will deliver information related to healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, and coping strategies. Students will implement motivational interviewing tactics as they facilitate group-based discussions among DPP participants. Students will continue to build upon communication and leadership skills through peer teaching as they work with and mentor students enrolled in PRAC 170 . Prerequisite: By permission only.
