This course is an introduction to the fundamental questions and methods in philosophy. Through contemporary and historical readings, students will examine some of the most enduring questions in philosophy: What are effective methods of critical thinking? What is the nature of knowledge? What is the relationship between the physical and the mental? Do we have free will? Does a divine being exist? What is the relationship between reason and religious faith? What are the origin and standards of morality? Is belief in God or religion necessary for morality? Is death bad?
