Catalog description

Musical Theatre singers must navigate an unusually wide stylistic and technical spectrum—from legit Golden Age sounds to contemporary mix/belt, rock, pop, jazz, and speech-like styles—while maintaining vocal health and expressive authenticity. This course explores the foundations of vocal pedagogy through the lens of Musical Theatre, integrating anatomy, physiology, acoustics, and neuroscience with stylistic analysis across eras of MT repertoire. Students will examine the diverse vocal demands of different styles, gain tools to recognize inefficiencies, and apply strategies to support healthy, expressive singing in themselves and future students. Prerequisite: MAPM 022 .
