Catalog description

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles of acting and addresses the demands unique to the performance preparation of the singing actor. By exercising the basic tools of acting - the body and the imagination - training for work on the stage begins. Through exercises, improvisation, and solo (monologue) work, students will develop basic skills in concentration, observation and listening. Emphasis is placed on building confidence, ensemble collaboration, and the actor’s imagination as a tool for storytelling. Coursework begins to explore the integration of acting into musical theatre performance. Prerequisite: Admission to music degree/unit or instructor approval.
