Catalog description

This graduate-level course surveys vocal literature across multiple eras and genres, with a foundational emphasis on classical traditions. Students will examine stylistic, linguistic, cultural, and pedagogical considerations that inform repertoire selection and performance. Through critical study, guided listening, score analysis, and performance-based exploration, students will develop the skills necessary to curate inclusive, historically informed, and technically appropriate repertoire for singers of varied backgrounds, abilities, and identities. Emphasis will be placed on connecting repertoire choices to vocal development, artistic growth, and professional versatility. Students enrolled in this course pay Pacific’s Conservatory Program Fee. Prerequisites: Admission to a graduate level music degree/unit approval.
