Catalog description

This course is designed to equip mainstream classroom teachers with the theory, principles, knowledge, and skills to effectively understand and teach English Language Learners at a variety of levels of English proficiency in K12 classrooms. Teachers will develop appropriate strategies and approaches for developing language proficiency and link their practice to all required literacy-related standards per the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) Program Standards and Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs). Students observe and implement these strategies during their field experiences to see, practice, and reflect on effective ways to meet the needs of English learners. Fieldwork hours specific to this class are required. Prerequisites: Fingerprint and TB test clearance.
