Teaching Candidates for a Single Subject and Multiple Subject Preliminary teaching credential are placed in local public schools for intensive application of their knowledge, skills, and dispositions for professional practice in California schools. Student teaching typically consists of daily (M-F). Student Teaching in public schools for at least one Fall or Spring semester to meet the state-required number of hours needed for a teaching credential. Any variation from this typical student teaching experience must be approved by the program and Director of Field Experiences. Students enrolled in this course will determine the number of credits needed based on their individual degree and credential requirements. Students cannot enroll in other courses other than EDUC 172 , SPED 125X , and/or EDUC 165 . Students must petition for permission to take an additional course in advance. To enroll in this course, undergraduate students must: be admitted to the Teacher Education/Credential Candidacy, be approved for Student Teaching, receive a passing score or approved waiver of the CSET exam, receive approval of a Certificate of Clearance with TB test clearance and program assessments completed before Directed Teaching, and complete the United States Constitution requirement. The Directed Teaching approval process must be completed with clearance by the Director of Field Experiences. Prerequisites: EDUC 130 , EDUC 140 , EDUC 141 , EDUC 161 or 156, AND EDUC 163 or 166 with grades of “C” or higher; Students should also be concurrently enrolled in EDUC 172 and SPED 125X ; a minimum GPA of 2.5.
