COMM 046
The Rhetoric of Science, Technology, and Medicine.
University of the Pacific · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The scholarly realms of science, technology, and medicine (STM) are broad, complex, and technical. Broad public audiences without technical knowledge and ability are often excluded from scholarly scientific processes. This course prepares students to understand and communicate about complex issues in STM, taking a critical approach that understands scientific inquiry as ever-changing, evolving, and socially constituted. Students learn foundational principles in STM; learn and apply the findings of rhetorical scholarship in STM; engage in truth-seeking and construction; and communicate complex, technical concepts for broad public audiences beyond the walls of the academy.
