Feminist Economics

What is a feminist economic framework? How does gender(s) shape the global economy and people’s economic experiences, and how does gendered, racialized and sexualized thinking influence the study and methodology of economics itself? The course explores readings from various disciplines/approaches including contemporary as well as contemporary critiques of economics –feminist, critical race, queer, postcolonial, and decolonial. Topics include racial economic inequality; intersectionality; economic coloniality, paid and unpaid work; “women’s” empowerment; care labor; capitalist and postcapitalist politics; family and household, among others. Students will learn how to apply feminist economic approaches to solving problems related to these topics.
