Gender, Race and Class

Catalog description

The U.S. Black feminist framework of intersectionality is crucial for understanding the interlocking nature of social constructs such as gender, race, class, and more, as well as how marginalized communities name and confront how systems of oppression interact. Students will learn about this framework and well as its potential applications throughout the world, which may include: examining the legacies of various empires and colonial rule (such as British, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, etc.); comparative case studies of particular types of oppression; and/or, how gender, race, class, and other constructs matter in the context of global phenomena (such as climate change, neoliberalism, humanitarianism, etc.)
