Teaching Mathematics to Adolescents

Catalog description
This course prepares mathematics teacher candidates to develop curriculum materials that will engage diverse secondary students with a wide range of abilities in mathematical thinking, communication, and problem solving consistent with national standards. Candidates will learn to plan units, lesson, and instruction to demonstrate content competency in a range of mathematics content. They will also use formal and informal methods of assessment to modify designs in order to improve student learning for all. Candidates will demonstrate skill in creative, appropriate, and content-specific uses of technology to enhance students' mathematics learning in diverse and inclusive classrooms. In addition, candidates will become reflective practitioners who learn how to use student feedback and assessment data to guide planning designs and future instructional moves.
