Metadata for Books

Catalog description

The course will discuss the metadata that drives book discovery, looking at various book websites (libraries, publishers, retailers, etc.) to understand the user’s experience. The bulk of the class will focus on understanding the language of metadata schemes, identifiers, and subject classification. We will touch on metadata points important for each book format (print, digital, audio) and for different market segments (trade, children’s, academic). We will end by discussing services to help with your metadata creation and distribution as well as learning about sales and usage metadata.
