Elective McShane Center Psychotherapy Practicum

This practicum course is designed for students who are engaged in supervised professional psychology service delivery at the McShane Center that is designed to enhance specific skills or competencies, or broaden their clinical and/or assessment experience. Such competencies might include enhanced experience with assessment (e.g., intensive training in specific assessment techniques or intensive training in assessment of special populations), specialized psychotherapeutic interventions, or applications of psychotherapeutic interventions to special populations, specialized group or preventive interventions, and participation in research protocols within the McShane Center Clinic setting. All experiences must fall broadly within the scope of training competencies offered in their respective doctoral program. All experiences must be supervised by a licensed psychologist who is associated with the McShane Center, and are limited to no more than 8 hours per week during the academic semester. Supervisors must agree to: provide one hour per week of supervision; engage in direct observation of the student’s activities; review and sign logs of professional activities; and, provide evaluations of student competency each semester. Permission must be obtained in advance from both the Director of Field Training, the Doctoral Program Director(s) and the McShane Clinic Directors. These experiences are additional experiences, and hours of service delivery cannot be used to meet requirements for other practicum, externship or internship coursework.
