Catalog description

This course is a continuation of Voice and Speech I, furthering the objectives from that course and deepening the student's understanding of vocal production. It places a strong emphasis on the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as a tool for developing the ear and achieving precision in the use of sounds. Through IPA training, students not only enhance their aural awareness but also gain visual cues to phonemes, facilitating a more comprehensive grasp of speech sounds. The course also focuses on the physical aspect of speech, with attention to the precise movements of the articulators, thus incorporating kinesthetic learning into the curriculum. By the end of the course, students will have a heightened ability to analyze and reproduce a wide range of speech sounds, laying a solid foundation for future work in voice and speech.
