Catalog description

In this course students demonstrate competencies of the professional nurse in providing acute and advanced critical patient care services. Students build on the knowledge, skills and attitudes mastered in previous medical-surgical nursing classes to facilitate their transition into professional nursing practice in acute care settings. Students apply inter-professional communication skills and inter-disciplinary collaboration to improve patient health outcomes. Focus is placed on providing evidence-based, person-centered primary health care to critically ill patients that emphasizes human diversity, promotes individual empowerment and is safe, quality and equitable. The course focuses primarily on adults, but other populations are considered. Clinical experiences foster student development of competencies that support the unique needs of diverse patients and populations requiring advanced acute and critical care.
